2.7.2 Download to Xpanel

Projects can be directly downloaded to Xpanel from XpanelDesigner via mini USB or Ethernet. Both methods are described below.

Downloading over USB

Install ActiveSync (Windows XP)

ActiveSync allows the transfer of data between a PC and various mobile devices running Windows CE. You can download it from the Microsoft website (www.microsoft.com/en-us).

Install Windows Mobile Device Center (Windows 7 and later)

Windows Mobile Device Center (WMDC) is a replacement for ActiveSync that allows a Windows PC to communicate with mobile Windows devices. For more information on installing WMDC, as well as download links, please see the official Microsoft documentation online at (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/931937/description-of-windows-mobile-device-center).

If the official download links are out of order, an unofficial guide with alternative download links is available at (https://support.waspbarcode.com/kb/articles/windows-mobile-device-center-troubleshooting-on-windows-10).

Sometimes the default WMDC settings do not allow Windows 10 to connect to devices automatically. To solve this issue, perform the following procedure.

a) Start the Windows [Services] app. You can do this by searching for “services” in the Windows Start menu search bar and selecting it from the results.

b) Double-click on [Windows Mobile-2003-based device connectivity] in the [Services] app.

c) Select [Log on as Local System account] in the [Log On] tab.

d) Click [OK], then reboot the system. After restarting the PC, the program should operate properly. When the device is connected, a green checkmark with the word “Connected“ should appear in WMDC. Note that it may take a few seconds to establish a connection.

Setup for XpanelDesigner

a) Once the USB connection is established, run XpanelDesigner and open a project to download to Xpanel.

b) Go to [Online] – [Setup Link] and choose [USB].

c) Go to [Online] – [Download to XPANEL] to download the project. If there are no files in the Xpanel project directory, then you need to convert the project into a runtime project. Press [Yes].

d) After converting to a runtime project, you may download either the whole project ('Full Download') or only modified items ('Modification Download'). After choosing an option, press [OK].

Download the Font File

Whether or not to download the font file with the project.

Keep Last Status of Virtual Tag

When this option is enabled, the values of virtual tags are maintained even after the program is closed.

※ This option is supported in XpanelDesigner V2.53 and above.

Connected Xpanel Info

Displays the IP address of the target Xpanel when connecting by Ethernet.

- Please note that only one Xpanel can be connected to a PC at a time, even if the PC has two or more unused USB ports.

- The project will not operate correctly if the version of XpanelDesigner that was used to create the project is different from the version of the Xpanel OS that is running the project. Upgrade or downgrade the software until both versions are identical.

Downloading over Ethernet

Checking the IP address of the PC

a) Go to [Windows] – [Run] (or press Win + R on the keyboard) and enter ‘cmd’ on the input screen.

b) Enter ‘ipconfig’ on the command screen to check the PC’s Ethernet setup. Make sure that both the Xpanel and PC are connected to the same local network, and that both are using the same subnet mask and default gateway.

Checking the IP address of Xpanel

a) If the Xpanel Config dialog box is not already open, then touch the corners of the Xpanel screen in the sequence shown below: bottom left -> bottom right -> top right. The Xpanel Config window will appear.

b) Select [Exit]. This will stop the Xpanel runtime and take you to the [Ethernet Loader] window.

c) Set an IP address for the Xpanel device. If the subnet mask and/or gateway are different from those of the PC, then change them to match the PC.

- The Subnet Mask and Gateway fields should be configured to match those of the PC. These can be found using the ‘ipconfig’ command.

- Duplicate IP addresses are not allowed. Make sure the IP address you choose is not being used by another device on the network.

- The Xpanel IP address must be on the same local network as the PC. If the subnet mask is set to 255.255.255.0, this means the first 3 values of the IP address must match those of the default gateway. If the subnet mask is set to 255.255.0.0, then the first 2 values must match, and so on.

d) Select [Apply this new setting] to save changes. A system reboot is required for changes to be applied.

e) A prompt will appear. Select [OK] if you want to save the changes. In this case, the Xpanel device will restart. Select [X] if you want to go back to the configuration without saving.

Settings for XpanelDesigner

a) Run XpanelDesigner and open a project to be downloaded.

b) Go to [Online] – [Setup Link] and choose 'Ethernet' for the connection method.

c) Click [Select Xpanel or NP/iNP]. If the Xpanel is turned on and in the same network, it will appear on the list as shown below. Select the Xpanel to which you wish to download a project. You can see the information for the selected Xpanel at the bottom of the window.

d) Go to [Online] – [Download to XPANEL] to download the project. You must first convert to a runtime project. Choose [Yes].

e) After converting to a runtime project, you may download either the whole project or only items which have been modified. After choosing an option, press [OK].

f) If the Xpanel runtime project file is already saved in the project folder, you may instead select [Online] – [Download to Xpanel (Existing Project)] to download any modifications.
