Communication Setup: Xpanel

In order to create a new device, click [Tools] - [I/O Devices] or click the (blue star) icon in the main toolbar.

I/O Device Name: Give a device name.

I/O Device Type: Select ‘Ethernet Device’.

The Device Name will be used in the Station Name and Tag Configuration of the database.

Select [Ok] for the ‘Ethernet Communication Configuration’ dialog box to appear.

Select ‘[LEGACY] Allen Bradley Logix EtherNet/IP’ from the Device Type the dropdown menu, and choose ‘TCP’ as the Protocol.

Move to the [Station] tab of the ‘Ethernet Communication Configuration’ dialog box and click [Add Station]. Set up the configuration as shown below and click [OK] to register the new station.

Station Name

Write the station name. This name will be used with ‘Device Name’ when tags are registered in the database.

Station Type

Select the ‘Control Logix’ (no other type).

Network ID

CPU Slot No.

IP Address

Write the IP address of PLC.

16Bit Data Swap

It is used to swap bytes of all word- and double-word-sized data.

32Bit Data Swap

It is used to swap words of all double-word-sized data.

String Data Swap

It is used to swap bytes of string data.

Comm. Error Message Pop Up

It is used to display an error message on the Xpanel screen in case of Rx/Tx error.

Fast Mode

This field has no effect.

Fixed XPANEL Socket Port No.

Enables XPANEL Socket Port No.

XPANEL Socket Port No.

Assign a Socket Port Number for the Xpanel.

I/O Device Write Enable

Enables writing to the I/O device.

Data Request Size Limit

Enables the 'WORD' and ‘BIT’ boxes below. Input the maximum word and bit data desired.

Communication Setup (Allen Bradley Control Logix PLC)

Address Setup

  • Open RSLogix 5000.

  • Click [Controller Tags] → [New Tag…].

  • Setup Tag Name and Data Type in [New Tag…].

  • Write any tag names.

  • Click [Logic] → [Map PLC/SLC Messages].

  • Make mapping File Number and Name in PLC2,3,5 / SLC Mapping.

  • File Number is set according to the address table.

  • Set up an IP address at RSLogix5000 or RSLinx.

  • Based on the file type, element no. 256 is not supported. Error code from PLC will be received when unsupported settings are downloaded. Change the PLC settings in this case.

  • Only the device has Word Tag.

  • BOOL and REAL device can be used to Digital tag or 32bit Analog tag.

Communication Cable Wiring

This interface can meet IEEE802.3 standard for 10 Base T /100 Base Tx. Refer to the following images to make RJ45 pin number and cable.
