The database is a core feature of CIMON-Xpanel. The database links abstract process variables with physical control devices. Every feature provided by CIMON-Xpanel is based on the tags defined in the database.

Real tags write and read their value to and from external devices. When the value of a real tag changes, it is immediately written to the associated device (via the chosen connection method – some methods may be faster than others). Virtual tags are used internally within Xpanel. They are used to simulate devices and processes, to process input data, and to store state data for the application state. Each tag also has a more specific sub-type: Group, Digital, Analog, or String. Tags are defined and configured using XpanelDesigner. Within an Xpanel application, tags can be accessed and updated by UI elements, external devices, scripts, and various utility functions (recipes, alarm groups, etc.). The database can also be exported to and imported from Microsoft Excel, allowing for easy management and printing.
