Shortcut for executing XpanelDesigner as administrator

Creating a shortcut icon allows XpanelDesigner to be started more conveniently.

a)     Go to the XpanelDesigner installation path. The default path is C:\CIMON\“XpanelDesigner Version”. This path may differ based on the user’s system environment.

b)     Right-click the “XpanelDesigner.exe” icon and click [Send to] – [Desktop (create shortcut)]. The shortcut icon for XpanelDesigner will then appear on the desktop.

c)      Double-click the icon on the desktop to check if XpanelDesigner opens properly. If there are any saved projects from previous editing sessions, you can select a project to continue editing.

d) To use the simulator tool and other features, XpanelDesigner may need to be run as an administrator. To do this, right-click on the XpanelDesigner shortcut and choose [Run as administrator].

e) To make XpanelDesigner run as administrator by default, right-click on the shortcut, then choose [Properties].

f) In the [Properties] window, choose the [Shortcut] tab and press [Advanced…].

Users can configure XpanelDesigner to run automatically when booting up Windows. Setup methods may differ depending on the version of Windows.

For Windows 7 and below, XpanelDesigner needs to be placed in the [Startup] folder. For Windows 8 and above, a task for XpanelDesigner needs to be added in the [Task Scheduler].

(1)    Windows 7 and below (Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7)

a)       Right-click on the “XpanelDesigner.exe” icon. Click [Send to] – [Desktop (Create Shortcut)] on the pop-up menu.

b) Open the [Startup] window. There are two ways to do this:

  • Press the [Windows] + [R] keys to open the [Run] window. Enter “shell:startup” in the search field and press [OK].

  • Open [File Explorer] and enter “Startup” in the path field, then press enter. You will be taken to the Startup folder as shown below.

c)      Drag and drop or cut and paste the shortcut icon for XpanelDesigner into the [Startup] folder.

(2) Windows 8 and above (Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows 10)

a)     Right-click on the “XpanelDesigner.exe” icon. Click [Send to] – [Desktop (create shortcut)] on the pop-up menu.

b)     Open the [Control Panel] and go to [Administrative Tools] – [Task Scheduler]. Alternatively, in Windows 10, you can type “task scheduler” in the Windows search bar, then click on [Task Scheduler] in the results section.

c)      Click [Create Basic Task…] in the upper right side of the [Task Scheduler] window to open the [Create Basic Task Wizard] window.

d)     On the [Create a Basic Task] page, enter “XpanelDesigner” in the name field, then press [Next].

e)     On the [Task Trigger] page, select [When the computer starts] and press [Next].

f)      On the [Action] page, select [Start a program] and press [Next].

g)     Press the [Browse…] button on the right side of the [Program/Script] field and select the location of the shortcut icon for XpanelDesigner, then press [Next]. Note: The selected shortcut should already be set to run as an administrator. See the above section for more information.

h)     Finish the configuration by pressing the [Finish] button.

Opening a project in XpanelDesigner

a)     Go to [File] – [Open Project] in XpanelDesigner and select a project to open. Only project files with the “.prj” or “.xprj” file formats can be opened.  The default path for project files is “C:\CIMON\XpanelDesigner Version\Project Name”.

Please note that the default project file extension may differ based on the version of XpanelDesigner:

  • For XpanelDesigner V2.34 and below, the default is “.prj”

  • For XpanelDesigner V2.40 and above, the default is “.xprj”

In XpanelDesigner V2.40 and above, you can open both the “.prj” and “.xprj” file formats. In older versions, you can only open projects with the “.prj” file format.

b)     Recently edited projects can be found on the XpanelDesigner startup page or in the [File] menu. The user can also open, browse, or create new projects from the startup page. The 4 most recently edited projects will be displayed.

c)      The desired project will be opened in XpanelDesigner.
